ELEVATE Penang @ Penang International Sports Arena

July 17th, 2012 by Karmun

Everyone knows by now how I love myself a good time. I don’t think I’ve ever said no to a good party when the invitation comes if the circumstances allow for my presence. Last weekend I was presented with the opportunity to not only grace the scene at yet another happening event, but I got to do it on homegrounds too. ELEVATE kick-started off its leg of heart-pumping parties at none other than my very own hometown, Penang and you bet your asses I was there with only the hottest bloggers around town. Penang represent!

20 of us were invited to join in on the fun, fuelled by free-flow beer, liquor and good music spun by international DJs all night long. Most of us had travelled all the way from Kuala Lumpur specially for this occasion so hopes were soaring high for the night to be a good one. It did not disappoint.

The usually unassuming Penang International Sports Arena was transformed into a giant club pulsating with neon spotlights and stereo bass speakers that shook the ground. All 3,000 metres square of the state’s biggest multi-purpose indoor sports arena became dance and drink friendly specially for the night. It fitted all nearly 1000 guests more than comfortably, so much so that I was left with my mouth hanging wide open when I stepped into the premises. Leave it to them engineers to turn something completely mundane into something worth shouting about!

Expectations were beyond high on my end to see what my home-state had to offer. KL has always held the floor for throwing the best parties; would this one measure up?

Kickstarting off the night was DJ Siera, Korea’s sweetheart DJ who’s as skilled at the spinning table as she is gorgeous.

She successfully got the ice broken for the night as slowly but steadily the stadium began to fill up with Penangites all ready to party the night away.

In between, we bloggers did what we did best. The best blogposts are nothing without the photos, right? We work hard to please. Tehehehehe.

Up next we had the Mocha Girls from the Philippines heating up the place with their sultry voices and even sexier dance moves. Hailed as Asia’s own version of the Pussycat Dolls, they enticed us with their own rendition of some of today’s latest hits complete with more-than-just-cheeky routines that left many hot under the collar.

Their nickname fitted them aptly. They had some moves that could seriously match the original Pussycats. Every pair of eyes in the room were glued firmly to them and their cute matching uniforms from the moment they came on stage, up till they had to say goodbye to a few broken hearts.

They made Sam one happy guy that night when he was asked onstage and got a song specially dedicated to him ;]

Showbiz – making dreams come true since 1810, hahaha.

After their impressive show of long hair, ample cleavage and really tight abs, we were served with a more street taste of performance. Our local boys from KL, Elecoldxhot took the stage with an entrance that silenced the entire arena.

They didn’t win 2011′s highly anticipated dance competition Astro Battleground by being just a bunch of pretty faces. These boys stole everyone’s breath away with some gravity-defying break moves that leave you doubting the very laws of physics.

Don’t let their quirky outfits and uncoordinated attires fool you, they are veterans in the dance scene who have performed on both local and international platforms.

Their performance was one made of energy, enthusiasm and more passion than I can catch on camera. You can tell they seriously love what they do. They were all over the place, bouncing from one end of the stage to the other like a mass of the most fluid, choreographed entity.

Somewhere along the way, all that energy rubbed off on us too, hehehe!

Japan’s DJ Hiloco came on play during the finale to a standing ovation from the crowd.

From her sparkly headphones to her downright adorable girl-next-door vibe, it was easy to see why she was so popular. Her sound was an eclectic mix of Japanese folk music with more modern beats, serving a refreshing mix quite unlike those you hear at any regular clubs. Her showmanship was extremely commendable too, as she continually strove to engage the crowd throughout her two hours on air as opposed to merely being all focused on her job and completely ignoring the people.

Good night? You bet!

My favourite part was taking some time off and sneaking away to hang out with my Penang girls.

First we were like –

Then we were like –

And when we made sure truly no one was looking, we were like –

HAHAHA!

Care to guess who else had a good time?

I ran into so many familiar faces it was like some high school reunion.

Plus, having a super hot date contributed to the overall fun too ;]

Not to mention the funnest bunch of party people who was willing to travel all four hours and some 350 kilometres for this.

ELEVATE Penang, thank you for having us, and an even bigger thank you for the amazing good time!

If this pioneer party is anything to go by, the next following few scheduled across the nation can only be equally as much fun, if not more so.

So fret not if you missed out on this! Watch out for the next one, and hopefully I’ll be seeing you there!

Have a good rest of the week!
